By hydrothermal method, using sodium sulfate as a directing agent, yellow tungsten oxide nanorod can be prepared. The nanorod have a diameter of 20~40nm and a length of 1~5μm. During the growth of nanorod, Na+ preferentially adsorbed on the WO3 (200) crystal plane, which inhibited the further growth of this crystal plane, and thus the nanorod grew toward its vertical crystal plane (001). The prepared nanorod was found that it exhibited good light absorption performance under sunlight. In other word, it shields ultraviolet rays and near infrared rays.
