Yellow tungsten oxide nanopowder may be used for manufacturing heat insulation coating, which may be applied in heat-insulating glass, such as building glass, car window glass, and so on. It plays the role of long-lasting heat insulation, making the indoor space cooler. And it improves human comfort. Also, it is energy-saving by reducing the operating frequency of air conditioner. All these are benefited from the photochromic properties of yellow tungsten oxide.
While other properties of yellow tungsten oxide should also be studied, such as wettability. Yellow tungsten oxide films with different morphologies have been fabricated on 400 meshes stainless steels through the simple hydrothermal process. SEM, XRD and XPS were used to analyze the surface morphology and chemical composition in different pH value, respectively. Results showed that pH value have great influences on both surface morphology and chemical composition. Furthermore, the underwater oil wettability has also been demonstrated using a contact angle meter. Results showed that the obtained yellow tungsten oxide films all exhibited high underwater oleophobic. It provides a new idea for the fabrication of special wettable surfaces with controllable morphologies.
