Molybdenum market update on November 28, 2025
This week, the domestic molybdenum market overall showed a pattern of "initial decline followed by stabilization". At the beginning of the week, affected by steel companies continuously pressing down ferromolybdenum procurement prices, international molybdenum prices oscillating downward and limited bullish support, many molybdenum product prices clearly decreased, but to avoid the risk of cost-revenue inversion, mainstream suppliers had low willingness to ship goods. Towards the weekend, due to enhanced production cost support, international molybdenum prices stopping the decline and rebounding, and increased initiative in downstream user inquiries, the speed of product price declines slowed down, with molybdenum concentrate prices adjusting at RMB 3,650 per tonne-degree.
According to statistics from CTIA GROUP LTD, this week molybdenum concentrate prices decreased by approximately RMB 70 per tonne-degree, down 1.88%; ferromolybdenum prices decreased by approximately RMB 11,000/ton, down 4.49%; molybdenum oxide prices decreased by approximately RMB 100 per tonne-degree, down 2.60%; sodium molybdate prices decreased by approximately RMB 3,000/ton, down 1.72%; ammonium heptamolybdate prices decreased by approximately RMB 5,000/ton, down 2.07%; molybdenum powder prices decreased by approximately RMB 14/kg, down 3.03%. From this, it can be seen that this week, affected by the significant downward exploration of ferromolybdenum prices, quotations for other molybdenum products also synchronously decreased.
On the news front, data from the China Iron and Steel Association show that in mid-November 2025, the steel inventory of key statistical steel enterprises was 15.61 million tonnes, increased by 120,000 tonnes month-on-month, up 0.8%; increased by 3.24 million tonnes from the beginning of the year, up 26.3%; decreased by 970,000 tonnes compared to the same period last month, down 5.9%; increased by 60,000 tonnes compared to the same period last year, up 0.4%; increased by 280,000 tonnes compared to the same period the year before last, up 1.8%. Among them, steel inventory in the Northeast region increased by 200,000 tonnes, East China region increased by 160,000 tonnes, Northwest region increased by 60,000 tonnes, Southwest region increased by 10,000 tonnes, Central and South China region increased by 130,000 tonnes, and North China region decreased by 440,000 tonnes.
